What is eLearning?

eLearning is the principle of making use of technology to enable people to learn anywhere, at any time. Depending on available resources, eLearning can vary considerably from simpler material (such as structured PDF documents), to highly interactive content containing animations, audio and video.

The Signify eLearning Offering

Signify has developed a variety of eLearning courseware for our clients, from micro learning to gamification-based courseware. Below are a few samples of what we have built. Our involvement in these developments can range from business-and training needs analysis, to instructional design, translation and courseware development.

These functions are managed by different modules in the system and can be purchased in any combination, but are normally selected based on one of the three main product suites listed below:

WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER USING ELEARNING AS PART OF YOUR LEARNING STRATEGY?

The benefits and cost saving of eLearning are well known as more companies are transforming their traditional learning offerings into interactive and enjoyable electronic learning content. Not only can it reduce training costs and reduce your organisation’s footprint, it also allow learners to learn at their own pace and convenience.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF eLearning CONTENT?
The eLearning development process consists of 6 major phases:
Analysis and learning design A learning experience designer works in close collaboration with our client to analyse and design a meaningful learning framework.
Content is developed and peer-reviewed by subject matter experts (authors) in the relevant learning field.
A storyboard is usually a PowerPoint version of the content that will be developed into eLearning. Approved content is restructured into a storyboard to illustrate the flow and activities of the planned eLearning.
Graphic designers and developers convert storyboards into interactive content. The level and complexity of interaction and animation of the eLearning courseware, is determined by a couple of factors. These factors can include: the type and purpose of the programme, the target audience, devices available to the target audience, bandwidth limitations and budget. The variety of devices that the content may be deployed on will also dictate the type of technology to use.
If the content is required in multiple languages, an English version of the programme is provided to translators for translation.

Relevance of the content to end-users. The value of the learning experience itself. Suitability of learning activities to the end-user (activities are interesting, promote learning and achievement of learning outcomes and, stretches end-user ability enough to keep them motivated). The technical limitations, pertaining to the learning platform and target devices.

WHAT ARE THE INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN APPROACHES WE USE?
The Signify Instructional Design Team uses an approach that is best suitable to the type of project.

The ADDIE model is mostly used for large-scale eLearning developments. ADDIE enables close collaboration with technical experts or subject matter experts throughout the instructional design and eLearning development process. This minimises risk on quality, learner experience, cost and timeframes.

We use SAM and AGILE when building micro learning to minimise project turnaround. This is ideal for clients who require rapid learning development and deployment.
